Nanny Salaries in London

Nanny salaries vary depending upon the nanny job itself.  Live-in, live-out and part-time nannies all vary in salary and the hours they are expected to work.  We have put together a guide on industry standards for every type of nanny job out there.  Unlike other careers, nanny salaries can often be stated in net values.  It is important to establish whether you are talking about net or gross right from the start.  It is very important to use the gross figure on employment contracts. Please note that the rates listed below are based on nannies with at least two-years of full-time nanny experience. National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates - GOV.UK

Full-time nannies normally work 5 days per week.  Most live out nannies are willing to babysit during the week, but this is usually paid in addition to the nanny’s weekly salary and is by separate negotiation.   Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule, especially if you offer your nanny extra perks (i.e. private use of a car, shorter work week, late starts with full salary etc).

Live in nannies -   due to the benefit of not having to travel to work and having free accommodation, a live-in nanny is expected to work longer hours than a daily nanny – about 60 hours per week.  It is also expected of a live-in nanny to do 1-2 nights of babysitting each working week.   Unlike a live out nanny, these 1-2 nights of babysitting are not paid in addition to their weekly salary.  We recommend these nights are not at the weekend or on their days off.  They should be offered a bedroom that is entirely for their use and preferably a bathroom

After school nannies and weekend nannies are the hardest to come by.  After school nanny jobs also pay more. They sometimes require the nanny to work afternoons during the academic year and full-time during the holidays.  This varying schedule hinders the nanny in finding supplemental employment elsewhere hence command a premium.
